Ghostrider Notes October 29th
The Ghostriders split last weekend, they lost 2-1 to Kamloops and won 4-2 against Castlegar, both games were in Fernie.
Ethan Jang returned from a month long injury last weekend and fit right in with several hits and his usual high speed play. Jang had an assist on Dylan Defosse’s goal vs Kamloops and scored a power play goal vs Castlegar.
Niki Sombrowski played Friday then went and played a Jr A game with Salmon Arm Saturday where he got his first Jr A point. Sombrowski took a crushing hit Friday but fortunately was alright. Can’t afford too many of those.
Storm forward Brett Metro was taunting the beer section a few times Friday then took a Gross Misconduct PIM in the third right in front of his new beer section buddies.
I won’t even describe what Metro was simulating he was doing to a player who was down on the ice, and if I, someone who loves the theatrics and mayhem didn’t like it....
So far the suspension isn’t listed, that usually means BC Hockey is sticking their noses into it, so maybe 6 games ?
Speaking of suspensions, and we just were, Kelowna’s star forward Brody Dale who leads the KIJHL with 20 goals and 32 assists in 17 games is out for a couple of games for a 5 minute head shot against Beaver Valley. I think he was mad because he only scored 1 goal.
We only mention that because the Ghostriders play in Kelowna on Friday night. And without their top line in tact they aren’t very good... that’s according to Nelson Leaf Mitchell Lavoie. In Tyler Harper’s Nelson Star newspaper interview Lavoie says “I didn’t think they were very good,” “I thought, one line and a couple solid other guys...
Hope he’s right
David Lenzin got blasted to the ice in the Kamloops game but was back Riding the next night and got his first points, a goal and an assist, with the Riders vs Castlegar.
Brendan Nemes had what turned out to be the game winner vs the Rebels and Jordan Kromm had a goal and 2 assists and has taken over the Riders scoring lead with 15 points in 15 games. David Lenzin and Kyle Ford are next with 14.
Rookie D man Sawan Gill who could be the rookie of the year had 2 assists and was the Riders Player of the Game. The much improved Derek Green was named as the Player of the Game Friday.
In the 2-1 loss to Kamloops the Riders went 0-7 on the power play... even one goal gives them a point... or bar in instead of out late in the third period would have tied the game.
The Tim Horton’s Player of the Week is Sawan Gill and the McDonald’s Practice Player is the speedy Johnny Elias.
The Riders play in Kelowna (15 wins 1 tie and 1 OT L) and North Okanagan (3-11 with 1 default loss) this weekend. Both games are scheduled Drive 99.1 Radio Broadcast Games.
Despite outshooting Sicamous 56-29 the Revelstoke Grizzlies have finally lost a game so there are no perfect teams left.

Ghostriders make some changes
Ghostrider Head Coach Jeff Wagner made a few changes to his roster yesterday. First of all he sent goaltender Zak Larson’s Hockey Canada rights to Grand Forks for a player development fee.
Wagner kept three goalies (so everyone knew something was going to happen) until yesterday but with December 1st on the horizon and the fact that as the season wears on it can get harder and harder to find a place for guys to play, he made some moves.
The goal isn’t just to get down to 23, you want to find spots for your guys to play.
Larson is a twenty year old and the two other goalies Riley Fonger and Justin Faiella are 18 and 19 so could play in Fernie next season, in junior you alway have to look ahead.
Press Release
The Fernie Ghostriders have sent (98) G Zak Larson to the Grand Forks Border Bruins for a PDF. The organization would like to thank Zak for his time and effort over the last year and a half and wish him all the best in Grand Forks.
Next Wagner brought in David Lenzin from Revelstoke for a PDF. Lenzin is another 20 year old (you can carry 5, Fernie has 4) who had some really good numbers in Revy, 5 goals and 6 assists in 7 games so he should be able to add lots to the Rider offence plus he plays on the PP. Lenzin will be in the lineup Friday and Saturday here in Fernie.
Press release. The Fernie Ghostriders are excited to announce the acquisition of (98) F David Lenzin from the Revelstoke Grizzlies! He will be in the line up this weekend! Welcome to Fernie, David. #RideTogether

With the addition of Lenzin coach Wagner had to find a spot for 18 year old winger Cole Gibson who had 2 assists in 8 games. Gibson is going to Beaver Valley to a coach (Terry Jones) that the players really seem to like.

Ghostrider News and Notes Oct 24
The Ghostriders split last weekend’s games winning 3-2 at home against Chase then losing 3-1 on the road in Kimberley.
Against Chase the goal scorers were Jordan Kromm with his 6th from Brendan Nemes. Owen Titus with his 3rd from Eric Welford and Keelan Saworski from Sawan Gill and Dylan Defosse scored the game winning goal on the power play. Justin Faiella was in net for the win, it was his second win in three games. The shots were 37-26 Fernie and 630 fans were at the game.
In Kimberley the Riders lost 3-1 and were outshot 38-15 but Riley Fonger kept the game close and was named as the player of the game. Nikolas Sombrowski from Kory Zinck and Kyle Ford scored the Rider goal and the attendance was 581.
Ghostrider Notes
The Tim Horton’s Player of the Week was shared by goalies Riley Fonger and Justin Faiella and the McDonald’s Practice Player of the Week was Chase Fioretti.
Both Jordan Kromm and Brendan Nemes left the game in Kimberley after an uncalled hits and slashes. They are day to day but possible for this weekend games.
Saturday's game vs Castlegar will be the last game in the Fernie arena for about a month, or until the roof repairs are finished. The City says they should be done by December 1st. They were right about the new ice plant starting on time, so lets give them the benefit of the doubt.
So with that in mind coach Wagner tells us the scheduled November 9th and 24th games that are on your beer fridge magnet schedule will be played in Sparwood. The November 15th game vs the suddenly first place contending Rockies will be played in Fernie in January. Both teams will be down to their final playoff roster by then, it will be a good show. The Riders are in Invermere on November 23.
The Kamloops Storm are in town Friday for their one and only game. Kamloops lost 12-2 to Summerland last Friday then won 5-1 last Saturday against Grand Forks and 5-3 vs Chase Tuesday night.
Chris Thon will be back in the Storm lineup after serving a 4 game suspension but Lincoln Connor who got 6 games for an attempt to injure won’t. Another one who won’t be is their GM Barry Dewar he is suspended for tampering in the off season...but he says it’s a f'n lie and he’s innocent.Well he said something like that anyway. Fact, someone ratted him out, tampering is very hard to prove.
NEXT HOME GAMES
The Castlegar Rebels are in town Saturday, the Ghostriders played a hard fought game in Castlegar September 21st and won 4-0. In that game Brandon Costa hit Eric Welford in the head and got a two game suspension. Welford got two injury weeks.
Right now the Rebels Colby Winla is serving a 4 game match penalty for attempting to injure a Princeton player and Dallas Goodwin is serving a 9 game suspension for head contact on a player and a physical abuse of an official in a game in Kimberley.
Hunter Maximunk is the newest Rebel, he was just traded from Kimberley.Their Head Coach and GM is Carter Duffin.
Round’ the League
Last Sunday the Rockies won in Armstrong and Golden won in Beaver Valley so after the weekend the Rockies were 1 point behind Kimberley and Golden was 1point behind Fernie, but the Riders have 2 games in hand on Golden and one on the Rockies. You have to win those games in hand...two struggling teams, Kamloops and Castlegar, are in town this weekend, these look like two winnable games.
After last weekend the Revelstoke Grizzlies are the only undefeated team. Kelowna has had 1 overtime loss and Nelson lost a game because they used an ineligible player. Kelowna is in Nelson Friday a possible game of the week.
