The Weekly Roundup A little theatre of the absurd- All the best and a Wolff
All the best to former Assistant Coach James Ouimet who has decided that he will not stay on again this season wanting to get on with life after hockey. Ouimet spent the last three seasons on the bench with Barry Wolff, Dale Hladun and Craig Mohr.
I'm not sure the fans realize just how much time you have to spend doing the AC job. But here at RN we do and thank him for it.
- Time to concentrate on life outside hockey. Love the game and I'm sure going to miss it.1 retweet9 favorites
- To every player I've coached thank you for putting up with me and good luck in the future. You guys made it fun for me. I'll miss it all.1 retweet20 favorites
- Thank you to the Ghostriders organization for 3 amazing years. It was truly an honour to have coached with such great hockey minds.
Several of the Ghostriders are skating at Coach Mohr's "Conditioning Camp that will finish up tomorrow. The players will now move on to Main Camp

Time Heals All Wounds
In other news... the Beaver Valley Nite Hawks have brought on Bill Birks as an assistant coach. You may remember a few years ago BV Head Coach Terry Jones and a few of his players stopped the Jr A Trail Smoke Eater's bus from leaving their parking lot as a protest over the 30 day suspension of Ryan Edwards levied by the aforementioned Birks who was the boss in Trail at the time. Edwards wanted to move down a level and play back in BV but Birks didn't like how it all went down so he suspended him for 30 days, and BC Hockey did nothing at all about it, and kept the player out of the game for a month, cause hockey is #1 . * Read that story Here
Anyway.... a few years later we find that Bill Birks is now on the BV coaching staff and the KIJHL has enacted the CJHL and Birks' 30 day suspension rule, cause it worked so well. Read the Press release from the KI web site here and see the three amigos arm in arm in the accompanying photo.
Never say never... I never say. *Read my thoughts on the KIJHL's and the CJHL's 30 day suspension guidelines here
The Wolff is at the door
Congratulations to former Ghostrider Head Coach and General Manager Barry Wolff . Barry was in the news this week when he was named as an assistant Coach in the upcoming Jr A Challenge .
Below is the story.
Wolff, 48, will make his second appearance with Canada West at the World Junior A Challenge, having been an assistant coach in 2010. Wolff has been head coach and general manager of Coquitlam Express for the past three seasons, leading the team to the BCHL championship in 2014. He also won the BCHL championship with the Surrey Eagles in 2005. Wolff was a guest coach evaluator for Canada West in preparation for the 2014 World Junior A Challenge.

The C Word
Well if you haven't already heard, Head Coach and General Manager Craig Mohr announced that former Calgary AAA Midget North Star Cole Keebler will be the Ghostriders Captain this year in his third and final season with Riders. Keebler (95) was hampered by injuries in his first two years with the Ghost and missed a month late in the season last year but still battled hard enough to be named as the Rider's Playoff MVP with 13 points in 11 playoff games.
For the record, Cole once had Craig Mohr as a coach in minor hockey.
Sara Moulton, (like me) formerly of the Fernie Free Press, wrote up a press release on Keebler, click here to read the full story
The A Team
Several of last season's players are trying out at the JR A Level, we'll know more in a week or so how they are doing but one player we won't see is 17 year old Cavin Tilsley Tilsley has signed with the Jr A Prince George Spruce Kings after having a pretty good season here in Fernie as a 16 year old with 33 points in 46 games. Both goalies- Jeff Orser (Calgary Canucks ) and Brandon Butler (Drumheller) are trying out at the next level as well. William Lightfoot was bitten by the 20 year old bug and was traded to Fort St John where he will also be working.
Radio Heads
The Ghostriders broadcast several of their road games on The Drive Radio in the Fernie -Sparwood area. For the last several years Kyle Christensen was doing the play by play but he moved on to a job on the coast opening up a spot and Tom Ross is the announcer who got the job. Tom has been working at the radio station in Cranbrook for the last couple of years and says he took the job because he has been a lifelong sports fan and got a taste for it while he was in College where he did the play by play for the SAIT woman's hockey team. " I'll strive to be an entertaining voice for the fans, and look forward to meeting the whole team and staff." Well we look forward to it Tom.
Fernie's broadcast schedule is below, our old buddy Howie Ashmore will be doing the first two games then Tom takes over Sept 19.
The Kootenay Ice just hired Chris Wahl as their play by play guy after losing Jeff Hollick who had been in the booth since day one. Wahl started out doing PxP in Castlegar a few years ago before moving up to Trail then on to Surrey. It has been interesting watching him move up over the years. Congrats to both of those guys.
If you're a Face Booker there is now a KIJHL Facebook page and it's here a nice job by the Summerland Steam's announcer Tim Hogg... The slug who did This Week in the KIJHL last year bailed, last I seen him he was gassed and askin what is this Fecesbook
The Riders have four exhibition games and two are at home Wed Sept 2 vs Invermere and Sat Sept 3 vs Creston.
