The Ghostriders split last weekend’s games winning 3-2 at home against Chase then losing 3-1 on the road in Kimberley.
Against Chase the goal scorers were Jordan Kromm with his 6th from Brendan Nemes. Owen Titus with his 3rd from Eric Welford and Keelan Saworski from Sawan Gill and Dylan Defosse scored the game winning goal on the power play. Justin Faiella was in net for the win, it was his second win in three games. The shots were 37-26 Fernie and 630 fans were at the game.
In Kimberley the Riders lost 3-1 and were outshot 38-15 but Riley Fonger kept the game close and was named as the player of the game. Nikolas Sombrowski from Kory Zinck and Kyle Ford scored the Rider goal and the attendance was 581.
Ghostrider Notes
The Tim Horton’s Player of the Week was shared by goalies Riley Fonger and Justin Faiella and the McDonald’s Practice Player of the Week was Chase Fioretti.
Both Jordan Kromm and Brendan Nemes left the game in Kimberley after an uncalled hits and slashes. They are day to day but possible for this weekend games.
Saturday's game vs Castlegar will be the last game in the Fernie arena for about a month, or until the roof repairs are finished. The City says they should be done by December 1st. They were right about the new ice plant starting on time, so lets give them the benefit of the doubt.
So with that in mind coach Wagner tells us the scheduled November 9th and 24th games that are on your beer fridge magnet schedule will be played in Sparwood. The November 15th game vs the suddenly first place contending Rockies will be played in Fernie in January. Both teams will be down to their final playoff roster by then, it will be a good show. The Riders are in Invermere on November 23.
The Kamloops Storm are in town Friday for their one and only game. Kamloops lost 12-2 to Summerland last Friday then won 5-1 last Saturday against Grand Forks and 5-3 vs Chase Tuesday night.
Chris Thon will be back in the Storm lineup after serving a 4 game suspension but Lincoln Connor who got 6 games for an attempt to injure won’t. Another one who won’t be is their GM Barry Dewar he is suspended for tampering in the off season...but he says it’s a f'n lie and he’s innocent.Well he said something like that anyway. Fact, someone ratted him out, tampering is very hard to prove.
NEXT HOME GAMES
The Castlegar Rebels are in town Saturday, the Ghostriders played a hard fought game in Castlegar September 21st and won 4-0. In that game Brandon Costa hit Eric Welford in the head and got a two game suspension. Welford got two injury weeks.
Right now the Rebels Colby Winla is serving a 4 game match penalty for attempting to injure a Princeton player and Dallas Goodwin is serving a 9 game suspension for head contact on a player and a physical abuse of an official in a game in Kimberley.
Hunter Maximunk is the newest Rebel, he was just traded from Kimberley.Their Head Coach and GM is Carter Duffin.
Round’ the League
Last Sunday the Rockies won in Armstrong and Golden won in Beaver Valley so after the weekend the Rockies were 1 point behind Kimberley and Golden was 1point behind Fernie, but the Riders have 2 games in hand on Golden and one on the Rockies. You have to win those games in hand...two struggling teams, Kamloops and Castlegar, are in town this weekend, these look like two winnable games.
After last weekend the Revelstoke Grizzlies are the only undefeated team. Kelowna has had 1 overtime loss and Nelson lost a game because they used an ineligible player. Kelowna is in Nelson Friday a possible game of the week.
