Ghostriders Oct 15th update and the usual drivel

The Ghostriders played two games last weekend,

on Friday the Riders lost 4-3 in overtime to the undefeated Revelstoke Grizzlies then on Saturday they lost 5-3 to Creston.

The Riders play in Kimberley Saturday night but it is not a scheduled Drive 99.1 radio broadcast game.

Rider HC Jeff Wagner says that after playing the undefeated Revelstoke Grizzlies Friday night in a playoff like atmosphere with 830 fans it was a bit of a let down  the next night with Creston in town and 300 less fans in the building... and the players played that way. New games start Friday.

Aiden Gleisner scored his first goal against Revelstoke, Brendan Nemes scored his 4th and Kyle Ford’s team leading 6th goal was the game tying goal in the third.

Riley Fonger made 38 saves and one was a beauty to keep the game at 3-2 in the third that gave the boys enough motivation to tie the game and  get a point in overtime . It was a good showing.

On Saturday Brendan Nemes and Jordan Kromm (5th) each had a goal and an assist and Keelan Saworski (5th) scored the third goal. Riley Fonger was in net.

Nikolas Sombrowski was not in the Fernie lineup last weekend because he was in Salmon Arm where he played two games as an affiliate with the Jr A Silverbacks. He should be in the lineup Friday, but Ethan Jang is still out for another week or so.

Greg Susinski will serve his one game suspension Friday for a 5 min boarding and game misconduct penalty in the last 10 minutes of the Creston game. Susinski will be eligible for Kimberley Saturday. 

D-man Tristan Downe was the Tim Horton’s Player of the Week and Jordan Kromm was the McDonalds Practice Player of the Week.

After playing in Fernie Revelstoke went into Kimberley Saturday and were outshot 32-24 but still managed a 3-2 win. Helps to keep the standings a little closer...

In other news that Rider fans probably don’t care about... Arguably the most improved team in the KI is the Columbia Valley Rockies. They are on a 5 game win streak and with 18 points are tied with Kimberley plus have a game in hand... And a game in hand is better than a 6 pack in the bush... is that how that sayin goes?

The Ghostriders play two home games in the last weekend of October against Kamloops and Castlegar. They are the last games in the Fernie arena until the roof is repaired in early December, hopefully just in time for the fans to hog back a few while watching Kimberley’s first game here in Fernie. 

I bet Kimberley hopes the rink isn’t finished and the December 1st game is in Sparwood, even with a full house there will be less than half the number of rabid fans that there would be in Fernie. 

We will have the full schedule changes here soon but right now it’s looking like the boys will play two games in Sparwood and play another mid week in the new year. 

Friday’s Game

The Chase Heat are in town for their one and only visit to Fernie. Chase won both of their games last weekend 3-1 and 4-3 against Sicamous and are now 2-8 with 1 tie.  Their Head Coach and GM is Brad Fox, he is now in his eighth season with the Heat.

There is a municipal election coming up this weekend  and several people are trying to get on council including Dan McSkimming (our PXP announcer and former board member) Phil Iddon (former Ghostrider President) and Tracey Kelly (Minor Hockey president) They are all hockey friendly candidates.
