The Eddie Mountain Breakdown
Fernie 3 @ Nelson 2
Brandon Youngson (Photo) played great in the Rider net stopping 30 of the shorthanded Leafs (14 skaters- because of suspensions and injuries) shots. The Leafs for the record, played Beaver Valley the night before with just 13 on the bench and it took 2 third period goals for Hawks to get the win. Credit the fitness levels of the NL for their efforts in the last few games.
The Riders had two leads in the game but Nelson tied it up both times until Nolan Lagace broke his 6 game scoring slump early in the third giving the Riders a 3-2 lead that they hung on to for the win. Ty Abbott and Riley Siebel scored the other goals. There was no Players of the Game but by all accounts Youngson was the Riders game star.
Kimberley 1 @ Beaver Valley 3
After winning 4-3 in Creston Friday Kimberley went into Beaver Valley Saturday and lost 3-1. Kyle Hope's shorthanded goal in the second was the winner and the Hawks outshot the Nitro's 35-27. Both teams along with Creston now have 28 points. That was BV's 10 win in a row.
Creston 7 @ Golden 2
Creston went into Golden Saturday and won 7-2. It was a fairly nasty second period with the Rockets Carter Vouri getting an instigator and Creston's Brodie Smith picking up a 5 minute check from behind on the same stoppage.
Castlegar 7 @ Columbia Valley 2
The Rebels score 5 in the third for the win. Logan Styler had 3 assists taking him into first place on the KI's top scorers list with 31 points in 15 games.
With the Riders two wins on the weekend they with 21 points are firmly in third place 8 points up on the Rockies but still 7 behind Kimberley and Creston with 28. The Riders still have several games against K and C so finishing better than third is achievable.
