The Fernie Ghostriders defeated the Golden Rockets 8-4 on Sunday afternoon here in Fernie.
The first
The Riders scored 3 goals in the first period and were the better team. Aidan Geiger had 2 and D-man Matt Pronchuk scored the other.
In the second
The Rider players seemed to think the pressure was off and were smiling and a little too lose around the face-off dots for.... a while... then Braeden Alkins scored then Dan Milojvic's goal made it 3-2 then Alkins scored his second to tie the game at 3.
The Third
The Ghostriders realized they were in a game at the end of the second and regrouped and scored 5 in the third. Josh McCulloch scored 2 to go along with Joel Burgess' pair and Aaron Neufeld chipped in a single. Zack Finley scored the Rockets 4th goal.
A nice regroup by the Riders who seemed to think the game was over at the end of the first, as did most of us 100 or so fans as well.
Jeff Orser was in net to start the game and was scored on once on a perfectly played Alkins breakaway. Brandon Butler played the last half of the game while Mitchell Privett went the distance for the Rockets. A few Riders had 3 pts...McCulloch had 3 pts, Georgopoulos 3 A Geiger 3 pts Robertson 3 A.
The Riders went 1-1-1 in the exhibition season and start for real next Saturday on the road in Invermere.
After the game Coach Craig Mohr gave us this short soundbite on a good third period to end the ex season with a 1-1-1 record.
