Riders open up the season on the road in Invermere tonight at 7:30

The Ghostriders open up the regular season tonight on the road in Invermere. This is their only game this week. The Rockies did not play last night either and the only Eddie Mountain team that played last night was Golden, more on Golden in a minute.  All Ed Mt teams are in action tonight.

Tonight's game in Invermere is a Drive 99.1 radio broadcast game. Click here to listen to Kyle Christensen @ 7:30 tonight.

Ghostrider fans will have to wait until Saturday September 27th for the first home game here in Fernie against the Golden Rockets, who, for the record, scored 4 in a row and 3 in the third to defeat Princeton 4-2 last night. The Rockets were in Fernie for an ex game last week and lost 8-4. The Ghostrider coaches liked Dustin Watt who was wearing # 12 and after the game traded for him. Former Rider D Josh Odelein ended up in 100 Mile with his old coach (last year's Rider coach ) Dale Hladun when that 3 way deal was over and done with, we don't know who Golden got from 100 because...

The GM's in this league don't care enough about their fans to bother to post their trades !!!! There has been lots of movement but almost none it posted on the KI site. They would be fined... if I ruled the world.

The Ghostriders have made several changes this year including a new head coach, new team captain and several new players. The new Head Coach and General Manager is Craig Mohr. Craig coached the Riders in 2004-06 then moved on to coach several different teams and was most recently an assistant Coach/GM with the Junior “A” Calgary Canucks.

One of the first things Mohr did when he came back to the Ghostriders was name Sparwood’s Dylan Robertson as the team’s new Captain. Robertson is now in his fifth and final year with the Riders and his hardnosed style of play and leadership in the room has earned him the “C”. “I’m very excited, “ it’s a role I’ve wanted to get a shot at since I first put on a Rider jersey at 15” he said.

The Ghostriders have 10 returning veterans this year and two new goalies. Hockey Canada changed the import rules this year and now an import is only a player who was not born in Canada. Previously BC teams could only have 8 out of province players. Right now the Riders have no imports but could bring in 8 out of country players, they had 2 US players last season.

The Riders had an older team last season and had no 16 year olds. That has changed with D-man Kyle Hugo and winger Cavin Tilsley who are both 16's. FYI teams may only have two 98 born players on the roster.
