Riders lose ex opener 5-2

The Fernie Ghostriders hosted the Kimberley Dynamiters Friday night in Fernie.

The First
The Riders were leading 1-0 at the end of the first on a nice play by Sam Plaquin to set up  Cavin Tilsley. Fairly even period with shots close, and time with the puck close as well.

In the second
Marco Campanella scored unassisted tying the game up at 1-1.  Halfway through the second Kyle Haugo made it 2-1 for the Riders and Sam  Plaquin had his second assist. With about 4 minutes left in the second Keenan Haause scored one that appeared to the fans behind the net not to have crossed the line. Anyway the period ended 2-2. With all the PIM it was hard to tell who was the better team.

The third
Sawyer Hunt scored with Austin Hancherow getting the assist just 2 minutes in. A couple of minutes later Jordan Roy from James Jowsey and Alex Rosolowsky scored then mid third Keenan Haase scored his second from Tim Nichols. Nitro's defended well in the third.

It has started

The second period had some heated moments that ended up with several penalties and two majors. Fernie's Matt Pronchuk got 5 for a high stick and Nitro Cory Provost got 5 for a hit to the head. Jared Marchi was listed on the lineup sheet at the door as the player who got the 5 but at the end of the game we found out different. Expect a couple of games announced today by the KIJHL brass.

Nitros had the most scoring chances
The Ghostriders could only get a couple of half decent scoring chances in the third and Kimberley defended well and won the game.  Overall Kimberley had the best and most of of the scoring chances. Liam McBain got the win in net for the Nitros and Brandon Butler played the whole game for the Ghostriders and played well for most of the game.

Coach Craig Mohr says he will play a different group of youngsters tonight in Kimberley but at the same time will add more experience to the lineup.... as will Kimberley I expect, seeing that they are at home. About 250 at the game Friday.

On Sunday in Fernie at 4:00 Golden will be in town for the Riders final ex game. The Riders will have most of their  guys in the lineup then.
